Lebanon is facing "one of the most dangerous periods in the country's history", says the country's Prime Minister Najib Mikati. He urges the UN to help one million people who have been forced to flee.

About one million of our people have been forced to flee due to the war that Israel is waging against Lebanon, he says according to the news agency National News Agency.

We are calling for immediate additional assistance to reinforce our ongoing efforts to provide basic support to displaced civilians, he says during a meeting with UN representatives on Tuesday.

The UN is now appealing, together with the Prime Minister, for approximately 426 million dollars, equivalent to around 4.3 billion kronor, in economic support to handle the humanitarian crisis.
