The Swedish Agency for Public Management (SKR) has forecast an annual population increase of between 25,000 and 30,000 over the next ten years, and also expects that resources for preschools will need to be reduced by twelve percent by 2027.
Theoretically, this means that over a thousand preschools will disappear, says Wallenskog to DN.
The forecast was made before the Statistics Sweden recently presented the figures for the first half of the year: a modest increase of 1,600. One reason is a significant decrease in the number of births since 2021.
We have had an extremely rapid population growth. Both a high birth rate and a fairly strong immigration in a few years. Many of those who have come here have had children of preschool age.
