Maradona passed away in November 2020 at the age of 60. A long battle against diseases was finally over for one of our time's greatest athletes, whose career on the football pitch is seen as one of the finest in sports history.
Besides football, he also received great attention. His alcohol and drug abuse are well-documented, but also the strong bond he formed with many fellow human beings.
Despite – or thanks to – all his flaws and shortcomings, he was loved by the people, especially back home in Argentina and in Naples where he played for Napoli, the club he led to league gold.
Soon, Maradona will have his own place in the heart of Buenos Aires' tourist area Puerto Madero. Around one million people per year are expected to visit the M10 Memorial to honor Maradona's memory.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to donate a sum of money to the Maradona Foundation.
The foundation is run by Dalma Maradona and four other children of Maradona with the aim of honoring their father and preserving his legacy.
