Max Verstappen missed home win

Max Verstappen had the chance to win his home race in the Netherlands for the fourth consecutive time. It didn't turn out that way, and instead Lando Norris snatched the victory from the Dutchman. We did everything we could, says Verstappen in Viaplay after the race.

Only three drivers have previously managed to win their home GP four times in a row: Juan Manuel Fangio (Argentina), Jim Clark, and Lewis Hamilton (Great Britain). Max Verstappen had the chance to join the elite group on Sunday, but failed.

Despite taking the lead just a few meters into the race after Lando Norris, who started in pole position, completely failed to get off the line.

18 laps later, however, the Briton was past Verstappen again, and this time he made no mistakes.

The McLaren driver pulled away more and more and won his second race of the season in dominant style.

It feels incredible. I won't say it was a perfect race after the first lap, but after that, it was very fine, says Norris in Viaplay.

The crowd at Zandvoort thus had to settle for seeing their home hope finish second. Third was Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

You always want to do better. We did everything we could, but it became clear that we weren't fast enough, says Verstappen after the race.

Verstappen has now not won a race since June 23, when he won the Spanish GP. Since then, he has missed the podium at three of the last five occasions.

With the win, Norris closes in on the overall standings, although it's still a long way up to the Red Bull driver. Chasing Norris now has a total of 224 points and Verstappen 295.
