The Italian won his latest title in Shanghai, as he stopped Novak Djokovic from taking his 100th ATP title.

For Jannik Sinner, it was his 17th career final win – seven of which have come this year.

The 23-year-old has, in addition to his success in China, also won Grand Slam tournaments Australian Open and US Open, as well as in Miami, Cincinnati, Halle, and Rotterdam.

Results that make Sinner top the ranking list by a wide margin, over 4,000 points ahead of Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, and has long been clear for the ATP final in Italian Turin in November.

Moreover, this season's success has brought a substantial amount of prize money: just over 12 million American dollars, which corresponds to almost 120 million Swedish kronor.

Jannik Sinner has, however, not only had a glittering year. In the spring, he tested positive for doping on two occasions. His explanation, that he had ingested the anabolic steroid clostebol through a massage by his physiotherapist who had injured his finger and used an ointment for the injury, was accepted and led to his acquittal.

The doping case seemed to be over, but then the anti-doping organization Wada appealed the verdict to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

It's not a situation I feel comfortable in, that's clear, because I thought it was over... so it's not easy, said Sinner at a press conference in October.
