The National Gallery art museum in London is issuing a ban on bringing liquids, reports The Guardian. The decision comes after several attacks by environmental activists, including one at the end of September where tomato soup was thrown at a Vincent van Gogh painting.
All liquids, except for medications and baby formula, are prohibited, and visitors are also being asked to leave larger bags at home.
"Following recent events at the museum, it is now necessary to tighten security to protect visitors, staff, and the national art collections," writes the National Gallery in a statement.
Since 2022, the art museum has been subjected to five separate attacks, two of them just in the past two weeks. The environmental organization Just Stop Oil has taken responsibility for two of them, and several people have been arrested on suspicion of vandalism.
The artworks have not been damaged, according to the National Gallery, as they are protected behind glass.
