The seven-week-long strike among factory workers at American Boeing may soon be over – if the union accepts the new bid.
According to the employer's new bid, wages would increase by 38 percent over four years – slightly higher than the previous bid of a total 35 percent wage increase over four years, which the employees rejected. Before that, they had also voted no to an even lower previous bid. According to the union, members will vote on the new bid on Monday.
A strong reason for rejecting previous proposals is that the company refuses to reinstate a previous pension plan, which was scrapped ten years ago, Boeing employees have told AP.
Around 33,000 factory workers have been on strike since September 13. The strike has hit hard against the already economically strained aircraft manufacturer, which is estimated to lose up to a billion dollars a month.
