Australia's women's national football team, "The Matildas", has got a new temporary national team captain – after Swedish Tony Gustavsson was sacked.
It will be Scot Tom Sermanni who takes the reins for the third time, while the search for a permanent replacement for Gustavsson continues. The 70-year-old will at least lead the team in the upcoming match against Germany, and possibly until the end of the year.
Tony Gustavsson was forced to leave "The Matildas" after four years as national team captain following the failure in this year's Olympic Games. Australia finished third in their group and failed to advance to the quarterfinals.
Tom Sermanni has previously, among other things, been national team captain for the USA's and New Zealand's women's national teams. He has also been national team captain for Australia twice before: 1994–1997 and 2005–2012.
