New large demonstrations for the hostages

Thousands of people gathered on Saturday evening in Tel Aviv to protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a failed agreement to bring home hostages from Gaza.

Relatives of the hostages and some of those who fell victim to Hamas' bloody attack on October 7 last year held speeches. But most attention was given to Matan Angrest.

The Israeli soldier was taken by terrorist-stamped Hamas and is still being held hostage in Gaza. His mother Anat Angrest played from a stage a recording found in Gaza, reports The Times of Israel.

Netanyahu, you must, must arrange an exchange between (Palestinian) prisoners in Israel and the prisoners here. I really want to see my family and my friends, says Matan Angrest in an undated video recording that can be assumed to have been made under duress and at gunpoint.

He continues, addressing the Prime Minister:

I believe you can do it. I trust you.

The demonstration was held a week after the largest protests so far against the war, when up to half a million people gathered to show their support for an agreement.

Also in Jerusalem, several relatives of the hostages held speeches, just a short distance from Netanyahu's residence.

Israel's military chief Herzi Halevi said on Friday that Israel cannot afford to wait much longer to get the hostages back home.

We can and will always fight Hamas to get the hostages back. But the longer time goes on, the harder it will be to get anyone back. That is my message also to the politicians, he said to the hostages' relatives according to Jerusalem Post.
