It's no again to a fluorite mine at Kyrkberget in Storuman. This despite the government's wish, reports Sveriges Radio Ekot.
It's the Mining Authority that has decided the issue and now rejected it.
In order for us to be able to continue having a reindeer industry in this area, you cannot grant permission for this mine, says the chief mining inspector Helena Kjellson to Ekot.
A year ago, the government revoked the Mining Authority's decision to stop the fluorite mine in Storuman. According to the government, the mining interest should weigh heavier than the reindeer industry, as larger areas are counted as national interest for valuable substances – so that all land needed – including for industrial buildings and other – is included.
Minister of Enterprise Ebba Busch says to Ekot that the Mining Authority has responsibility for the decision, and that they will respect this.
But the direction is very clear, we are paving the way for more mines in Sweden now, regardless of this decision.
The Mining Authority's decision can be appealed to the government again.
