A rare specimen of Sweden's first postage stamp and a beautiful letter sent out in Europe in 1857 were two of the gems sold at a postage stamp auction in Malmö that ended on Friday.

The rare postage stamp, of the three skilling banco type that began to be printed in 1855, was a misprint and was also uncancelled, and the final price was 15,000 euro.

"The printing error is located in the lower right corner and occurred when the printing plate had a small damage right there", writes the responsible auction house Postiljonen in a press release.

The beautiful letter from Uppsala to London, with its three postage stamps and numerous cancellations, was described as "completely unique" and was equally expensive.

In total, the nearly 2,000 items brought in 15.5 million kronor.
