Norway's government is considering building a high fence along the border with Russia, reports NRK.

This is a measure that can become relevant, on the whole or parts of the border, says Minister of Justice Emilie Enger Mehl (Sp).

The Minister of Justice has been inspired by the 20-mile long fence that Finland is setting up along parts of its 134-mile long border in the east.

Border fences are very interesting, not only because they can function as a deterrent, but also because they contain sensors and technology that enable detection of people moving near the border, says Enger Mehl to NRK.

The border between Norway and Russia is approximately 20 miles.

Finland has motivated strengthened border surveillance and closed crossings as a necessary defense against Russian hybrid warfare, after large numbers of migrants appeared in the middle of winter – people who are believed to have been actively guided there from the Russian side.
