In his speech, the Prime Minister did not mention the US-led proposal for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah – instead, he promised to fight until "all our goals are fulfilled".
Criticizes the UN
Netanyahu also emphasized that Hamas should not have any role in the reconstruction of Gaza.
Several delegates, including those from Lebanon and Palestinian territories, left the room when Netanyahu took the podium amidst a mix of applause and angry outbursts.
The UN also received a rebuke from the Israeli Prime Minister. Netanyahu said that the UN had become a "contemptible farce", and referred to what he describes as lies about Israel spread by other world leaders before the UN.
Protests outside
Outside the UN headquarters in the city, pro-Palestinian demonstrations against Netanyahu and Israel's warfare have been ongoing since yesterday, according to several media outlets.
Netanyahu will lie to the world, just as he lies to us Israelis, said a demonstrant from a coalition of Jewish and Israeli organizations before the speech, according to The Guardian.
Stop killing children, end the war, sign the agreement, bring home the hostages. There is no military solution.
According to American media, pro-Israeli demonstrations have also been held in New York ahead of the Prime Minister's speech to the General Assembly.
