Madelene Sagström has got off to a fine start at this year's PGA Championship.

The Swede is two under par after half the tournament and is still in the hunt for her first major title in her career.

After a few wobbly weeks leading up to it, Madelene Sagström has peaked in form for the PGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington.

The Swede had a strong first day (two under par), and followed it up with steady play during the second round when she shot 72 and went on par.

Unpredictable round

After half the tournament, Sagström is now two under par overall, and lies in a tie for ninth place, four strokes behind the leading American Sarah Schmelzel and the South Korean Amy Yang.

The Swede started strongly, and was three under for the day after nine holes. But then her game began to falter, and just four holes later she had dropped three strokes and was back on par for the day. In the end, she managed to finish on 72, after another birdie and bogey.

Pursuing her first major

Thus, the Swede has put herself in a decent position to compete for her first major title in her career. The 31-year-old has been playing on the LPGA tour since 2017, and has only won once, at the Gainbridge LPGA in 2020.

One stroke behind Sagström is the Swedish Maja Stark, with a total of –1, after shooting 71 in the second round.

Further down the table, Linn Grant lies at +3 and Frida Kinhult at +4.

Anna Nordqvist (+6), Pernilla Lindberg (+13) and Linnea Ström (+15) appear to be missing the cut.
