A primary school in Sörmland is being criticized by the School Inspectorate for having prayers during assemblies that were not voluntary – which violates the Education Act.
The school now risks a fine, reports P4 Sörmland.
The assemblies are said to have contained information about homework and schedules mixed with prayers and readings of Christian texts. The School Inspectorate has emphasized that the assemblies were mandatory.
The head of the school rejects the criticism and claims that the assemblies were voluntary, but states that the school will clarify what applies.
The School Inspectorate demands that the school takes action in September, otherwise it may be forced to pay a fine.
Earlier this spring, the school also received criticism from the School Inspectorate, which pointed out deficiencies in biology education at the school. Among other things, teachers are said to have stated that the theory of evolution is not true, reports P4 Sörmland. The School Inspectorate has issued a warning to the school. The assessment is that the school must take necessary measures.
