Alpine star Mikaela Shiffrin is chasing her 100th victory in the World Cup – but it will not come in downhill.
The American has chosen to abstain from the discipline this season, which begins in Austrian Sölden on October 26.
There will be no downhill, she says. I would love to ski it again, but we'll see how everything goes.
The 29-year-old is instead focusing on slalom, giant slalom, and super-G.
The downhill crash in January was close to ending her career, but Mikaela Shiffrin made her way back to the sport. However, it is the accident in Cortina that lies behind the decision to skip downhill this season.
Shiffrin made history when she won two races in Åre last year and thereby became the best alpine skier of all time with 87 victories in the World Cup.
Swede Ingemar Stenmark had the previous record of 86 victories.
