NHL has now revealed the schedule and more details about the new mini-World Cup in hockey next year.

It is called 4 Nations Face-Off and will be the first hockey tournament where all countries' NHL professionals can participate in almost a decade, since the World Cup 2016.

Canada, USA, Finland, and Sweden will meet each other in a group stage and the two best teams will play the final.

For Sweden, the toughest possible start awaits. The premiere match is played against Canada at Centre Bell in Montreal on February 12. Three days later, Tre Kronor will face Finland before the tournament moves to Boston where the USA awaits in the last group match on February 17.

The final will be played on February 20, also in Boston.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman presented the details of the tournament at a press conference before the first final in the Stanley Cup playoffs between Florida and Edmonton.

4 Nations Face-Off will be a kind of appetizer before the Winter Olympics in Milan 2026, the first Olympic hockey tournament with NHL players in twelve years.

One detail in the setup is that the tournament is only open to players with NHL contracts, so players from the Swedish SHL or Swiss league without a connection to a team in North America cannot participate.

The first six players for each team will be announced on June 28.
