The red-green government in Stockholm City announced in February that they are terminating the airport agreement with the state. The current agreement expires in 2038 and the plan for the area includes new housing, among other things.
It's high time to phase out Bromma Airport and I can't see any other option for the government than to do so. When BRA moves out, there won't be many flights left.
The Government Decides
The announcement means in practice that the airport will be without scheduled traffic, according to state-owned airport company Swedavia, which owns Bromma Airport. And no other airlines have shown interest, as there is already available capacity, according to Swedavia's CEO Jonas Abrahamsson.
We have approximately 45 percent of the number of passengers we had before the pandemic. It's clear that there have been opportunities for others to come in earlier, he says.
Thus, it's likely that this announcement will actualize the political question of Bromma's future, he continues.
And that question belongs to the government.
We can't decide it ourselves.
But Infrastructure Minister Andreas Carlson (KD) doesn't want to give any answer.
