Eleven teenagers are being prosecuted for a series of brutal muggings in the Uppsala area. Some of the robbery victims were lured to different locations where they were then attacked and assaulted.

The perpetrators have threatened and beaten the plaintiffs and got them to withdraw cash, says prosecutor Lina Elfwing to Upsala Nya Tidning.

The charges concern six muggings and one attempted mugging from last summer to this spring.

Some of the youths, aged 16-18, are also being prosecuted for extortion or attempted extortion since some of the robbery victims were subjected to new threats and pressured for money.

Most of the defendants deny the crimes, but some have admitted to being involved.

They have said that they intended to commit crimes against pedophiles and that they tried to target people who buy sex from minors, but we have not been able to see if the plaintiffs have done so, says Lina Elfwing to SVT Nyheter Uppsala.

She tells SVT that there may be "a dark figure of people who have been affected but have not reported it".
