The verdict against Swedbank's former CEO Birgitte Bonnesen will be appealed. Of course, says her lawyer Per E Samuelson to TT and describes that he "is in shock" over the verdict.

TT reaches Per E Samuelson on the phone during a break in a court hearing. He explains that he has not had time to read the verdict, but that he has been in contact with Birgitte Bonnesen.

It's a shock. A shock for Birgitte, a shock for me. It's a verdict I haven't had time to read yet, but it doesn't match my sense of justice about how this should have gone, says Per E Samuelson and continues:

We had the law, legal precedents, and facts on our side. That the court of appeal has been able to come to this conclusion is, in my opinion, clearly incorrect. I couldn't in my wildest imagination imagine that something like this could happen.

On the given follow-up question of whether he intends to appeal the verdict, the answer is:

Yes, that's obvious.

Samuelson says that Birgitte Bonnesen is having a hard time taking in the verdict.

She can't understand that she, who hasn't taken a single krona from anyone, should be in prison. She can't take it in, says the defense attorney.

She has done her job her whole life. Now the court of appeal has taken away the rest of her life.
