Handball star Nina Dano misses the OS in Paris this summer. The 23-year-old has had problems with her well-being. She has had a pretty tough spring after the championships and hasn't felt particularly well, says national team coach Tomas Axnér.

Handball star Nina Dano misses the OS in Paris this summer.

The 23-year-old has had problems with her well-being.

Nina Dano has played five championships for Sweden. The latest was the World Championship in December last year and she was also part of the OS team in Tokyo 2021.

But she is not part of Tomas Axnér's team for the summer's Paris OS, which was presented in Malmö on Tuesday.

How do you support her from the national team side?

Dano suffered a lower leg fracture in the EM premiere in November 2022, but made a comeback in the new club Odense in the fall. She has been part of the spring qualifying teams for EM and OS.

Even midfielder Anna Lagerquist and left back Olivia Mellegård miss the championship. They are injured and will be out for the summer.

On the other hand, newcomers Evelina Eriksson, Sofia Hvenfelt, Tyra Axnér, and Nina Koppang will be going to Paris. Veteran Jamina Roberts, 34, will be competing in her fourth consecutive OS.

Only 14 players can be selected for an OS team, plus three reserves who can stay outside the OS village. Only one left back – Elin Hansson – has been selected.

The national team will gather in two weeks for a training camp on the Canary Islands. Then there will be a new gathering on July 3 for the final preparations before OS.
