The UK to Save Billions

The UK's new finance minister is expected to present proposals today to save many billions of pounds, according to BBC. It may involve cutting back on railway and road projects, reducing consulting costs, and minimizing waste in the public sector.

On Monday, an internal review conducted by the finance department will also be presented, providing figures on the size of the budget deficits. It is said to amount to 20 billion pounds, approximately 280 billion kronor.

According to the new Labour government, which has taken over from the conservative Tories after Labour's major election victory in early July, the previous government has concealed the holes in the finances and only stuck to them. The response from the Tories is that Labour wants to argue for tax increases.

Labour is said to be willing to sacrifice the previous government's plan for a road tunnel under Stonehenge and former Prime Minister Boris Johnson's hospital program.
