An anti-racist monument is to help the people of Malmö process the racist attacks that took place in the city between 2003 and 2010. The artists Susanna Marcus Jablonski and Santiago Mostyn have been commissioned to create their monument "Master narratives" which will stand on Falsterboplan - or Jesusparken - in the Möllevången district of Malmö.
The initiative comes from private individuals, including the author Nicolas Lunabba, who felt that there was a lack of recognition that the motive behind the shootings and murders between 2003 and 2010 was racist.
The city's political leadership then commissioned the cultural administration to drive the project together with the initiators.
The selected monument consists of a sculptural part, a stone and bronze sculpture, which is to express the strength that arises when people are in solidarity with each other. At the same time, people are encouraged to write or write down their thoughts, feelings, and memories from the period in question, and these will then be placed under the sculpture itself.
The artwork will become part of Malmö's public art collection and will be inaugurated next year.
