Ariarne Titmus, Australia, won the most talked-about final in the OS swimming events.

She defended her gold on 400 meters freestyle and won the star-studded encounter over Canadian wonder kid Summer McIntosh, 17 years old, and American star veteran Katie Ledecky, 27.

This is the second OS final in a row where she defeats Ledecky, the winner of the distance in 2016.

Titmus won with a time of 3.57,49 – more than two seconds over her own world record – and defeated McIntosh by 88 hundredths and third-place Ledecky by more than three seconds.

I'm tired in my legs, but most of all I'm relieved. I've felt the expectations and pressure more than ever before this race. I have to say that I'm pretty good at handling it, says Titmus to AP.

Ledecky, former world record holder, took her eleventh OS medal in history. She has seven gold and three silver medals from before.

Summer McIntosh took over the world record under four months ago, but Titmus struck back.

Titmus' gold was her third in OS contexts.

Summer McIntosh took her first OS medal in her career and has four World Championship gold medals from before.
