Both sides in the war in Sudan are deliberately using starvation as a weapon in the conflict, according to four independent UN experts on Wednesday.
The war between the former military allies, Sudan's regular military (SAF) and the militia RSF, has been raging for over a year and is described as one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
"Both SAF and RSF are using food as a weapon and starving civilians", say the experts, pointing particularly to the ongoing siege of the city of el-Fasher, where hundreds of thousands of civilians are suffering from severe food and water shortages.
The experts, appointed by the UN Human Rights Council, say that 25 million civilians are threatened by famine and are in urgent need of assistance.
Both sides in the war have been accused of blocking humanitarian aid, among other things.
The UN experts are urging both sides to "stop blocking, looting and exploiting humanitarian aid". They also believe that foreign governments providing military support to the warring parties are complicit in war crimes.
