The USA has resumed operations at the floating pier it built in Gaza to bring in aid, writes the USA's military command for the Middle East, Centcom, in a post on X.

According to the post, lorries transported around 656 tonnes of cargo to the beach in Gaza on Thursday.

The pier, built on behalf of the American government in the spring, was intended to provide an open route for supplies to the suffering Palestinian population. However, it is sensitive to weather and wind, and has already required repairs after being damaged in a storm in May.

The UN's food agency (WFP) has paused its deliveries via the pier after Israel carried out a military operation in the vicinity, in connection with the country's release of four hostages. Over 270 Palestinians were killed in connection with the release.

The USA and Israel have stated that an area near the pier was used to retrieve the hostages by helicopter, but deny that the pier was used in connection with the event.
