Volvo is forced to recall 72,000 units of its new electric car EX30 in Sweden and the rest of the world, reports the site Carup.
The cars may have a fault on the instrument cluster that prevents the speedometer from displaying.
According to Volvo's PR chief Magnus Holst, around 5,000 cars in Sweden are affected.
The Volvo EX30 has no traditional speedometer behind the steering wheel, but instead the speed is displayed on a larger screen to the right of the driver, and it is this screen that can enter a test mode when the car starts. In test mode, the speed or other important information is not displayed. To fix the fault, a software update is required.
Holst tells Carup that the update can be performed without visiting a workshop, if the customer so desires.
The Volvo EX30 began deliveries in January this year. So far, 35,000 cars have reached the roads, but the recall affects all 72,000 produced cars.
