Borg's First DC Win: "A Dream"

He had played three Davis Cup matches and lost them all. But the fourth time was the charm for Leo Borg. The victory over India's Ramkumar Ramanathan also means a perfect Swedish start with a 2-0 lead after the first day.

Dad Björn Borg has racked up wins in the Davis Cup and in the Royal Tennis Hall, and now the 21-year-old son got his first win.

He raised his arms in the air when the match ball was in. In the stands, dad Björn and mom Patricia were enjoying their son's victory.

It feels completely incredible. It's a dream you've had for a long time to win a match for Sweden, says Borg in the arena interview afterwards, where he also thanked the audience for their support.

The winning figures over Ramanathan, ranked 322 in the world, were 6–3, 6–4 after a slightly nervous start.

I started a bit nervously, I tried to tell myself that I'm getting into it and I did it quickly. I handled it well, says Borg, ranked 603.

Previously, Sweden's number one Elias Ymer had easily given Sweden the lead after winning over doubles specialist Sriram Balaji, unranked in singles, with 6–4, 6–2.

The 238th-ranked Swede enjoys playing Davis Cup and socializing with his teammates, as it's usually lonely on the tour.

This week has been fantastic, you're usually alone every week, we're real warriors, so this is fun and it feels relaxed, says Ymer.

On Sunday, a doubles and two singles are on the program, and Sweden only needs one more win to secure the victory.

The winner of the meeting in Division 2, World Group 1, will qualify for the final.
