After the National Team Controversy – Larsson Started

Last weekend, Hugo Larsson left the national team gathering after a conflict with the national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson. The explanation then was that Larsson had an injury, but the 20-year-old played 85 minutes when his club Eintracht Frankfurt beat Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

Midfielder Hugo Larsson was openly disappointed that he didn't get playing time against Azerbaijan last week in the Nations League – and that national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson said publicly that the Eintracht Frankfurt player must play more offensively.

On Sunday morning – later that evening, Sweden won against Estonia – last weekend, the news came that the 20-year-old was leaving the gathering due to a minor injury, but already on Tuesday, Larsson was training with the club.

When Frankfurt faced Wolfsburg on Saturday – with national team colleague Mattias Svanberg starting (substituted in the 71st minute) – Larsson was part of the away team's starting eleven.

Larsson was involved in the preparatory work for Frankfurt's leading goal after half an hour. The Swede found his way to Hugo Ekitike, who could serve Omar Marmoush for 1–0.

With a quarter of an hour left to play, it was tied. Ridle Baku turned away Larsson just outside the penalty area and placed 1–1.

In the 82nd minute, however, Frankfurt could secure the three points. The away team got a penalty after a handball and Marmoush scored the winning goal. Three minutes later, Larsson was substituted.

National team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson has denied that there is a conflict between him and Larsson.
