Haaland goalless – stopped by Inter

He has scored goals in all of the season's Premier League matches. But in the Champions League premiere, Erling Braut Haaland was goalless. Manchester City opened the club tournament with 0-0 against Inter.

A goal in the premiere away against Chelsea marked the beginning of a goal-galore start to the league season.

After the match at Stamford Bridge, Erling Braut Haaland made two hat-tricks and in the latest round, he was credited with two goals.

Total, the 24-year-old has made nine of table leader Manchester City's eleven league goals.

Four straight matches followed by something unusual. The star became goalless.

"Not afraid"

Despite having a significant advantage, the home team had a hard time getting a grip on coach Simone Inzaghi's Inter.

Our plan was to show that we're not afraid of being here, that we play football just like them. We knew that City rarely loses at home, but we took a point here, says Inter's Hakan Çalhanoğlu in Viaplay's broadcast.

We're happy about the draw.

The reigning Serie A champion stepped onto Etihad Stadium's grass with a clear tactic; to position themselves correctly, close spaces, and occasionally stop opponents in an unauthorized manner to gather the team.

The result was clear.

City had a hard time finding holes in the Inter wall.

Coach Pep Guardiola tried to shake up the match picture by, among other things, substituting Phil Foden – the star played his first minutes since August 18 and had one of the best chances – and İlkay Gündoğan for Savinho and Kevin De Bruyne.

But the duo didn't do any better, and the home team's stars left the arena without a goal.

From the first minute, I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I think we did a good job, says City-back Joško Gvardiol to Viaplay.

Nilsson without a goal

Swede Gustaf Nilsson was another who became goalless. Club Brugge's forward, who has made two goals and three assists in seven league matches, played 65 minutes in the 0–3 home match against Dortmund. Jamie Gittens and Sehrou Guirassy set the visitors' goals.

More goals were scored, however, in Glasgow.

Celtic won at home against Slovan Bratislava with 5–1 after goals by Liam Scales, Kyogo Furuhashi, Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda, and Adam Idah.
