The Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen recently set a world record on 3,000 meters. Now he will make his debut on a new distance.
"I'm looking forward to testing myself on the half-marathon for the first time in Copenhagen", he says in a press release.
The 23-year-old star – who has on his merit list Olympic gold on 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters – does not have high expectations of himself, however.
"It will be exciting to see if I can even make it to the finish line", he says.
Before Friday's Diamond League gala in Brussels, there was speculation about Ingebrigtsen participating in Copenhagen.
I don't have a return flight ticket, the star replied cryptically.
Now it's clear that Ingebrigtsen will participate in the half-marathon, which takes place on Sunday. He has never before run over 10 kilometers in an official competition.
Sondre Nordstad Moen holds the Norwegian record on the distance, with a time of 59.48.
