A Lebanese security source tells the news agency Reuters that the likely new Hezbollah leader Hashem Safieddine is "untouchable" after an Israeli attack on Beirut on Friday.
Safieddine (sometimes spelled Safi al-Din) is a cousin of the former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and is believed to take over his role. He was, according to Israeli media, the target of one of the many attacks on Beirut on Friday.
The area where Hashem Safieddine is believed to have been when the attack occurred has not yet been able to be searched, reports BBC, citing Lebanese security sources. The reason is the constant attacks on Beirut's southern suburbs over the past 24 hours.
The Shia Muslim movement Hezbollah has not commented on any information about Safieddine.
Hassan Nasrallah was killed in Israel's massive bombing raids on Hezbollah strongholds in Lebanon's capital Beirut at the end of September.
