Arne Slot makes Anfield debut – without new signings

On Sunday, Liverpool makes its home premiere for the season. And it does so without any new acquisitions at all. I trust the team completely, says new coach Arne Slot according to AFP.

The new Liverpool, after eight years with Jürgen Klopp, it was called.

But when Arne Slot steps out onto Anfield for the first time as Liverpool's head coach in a Premier League match, he does so without any new signings.

The club has tried to recruit players all summer, and there have been plenty of rumors, but all the deals have fallen through.

The closest they came was to signing Real Sociedad's midfielder Martín Zubimendi, but the 25-year-old is said to have rejected the chance to move to the Premier League and Liverpool to stay with the Basque club where he was nurtured.

"I have complete faith in them"

Despite this, Arne Slot remains calm.

I've said it before. I've inherited a very good team, with several young players. We have complete faith in them. They have proven that they can earn our trust, he says according to AFP.

Instead, the summer has largely been about sales and keeping players for "The Reds". The team has sold several squad players, including Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho to Brentford, Bobby Clark to Leipzig, and released others on a free transfer.

First meeting with the home fans

As if the lack of new signings wasn't enough for Arne Slot, he faces the tough task of following Jürgen Klopp. The German took the supporters by storm and is considered by many to be one of the greatest coaches in the club's history.

But Slot doesn't feel any pressure ahead of his first meeting with the fans at Anfield. His focus is on what happens on the pitch.

I'm not nervous at all. Especially not here and now since I'm in the middle of preparing the team for Sunday.

Liverpool meets Brentford, and the match starts at 17.30.

Saturday, 13.30: Brighton–Manchester United.

Saturday, 16.00: Crystal Palace–West Ham, Fulham–Leicester, Manchester City–Ipswich Town, Southampton–Nottingham Forest, Tottenham–Everton.

Saturday, 18.30: Aston Villa–Arsenal.

Sunday, 17.30: Liverpool–Brentford.
