Nine authorities should be abolished and several should be reformed, according to the Agency for Administrative Development after a review of the state's non-ministerial government agencies.
Several authorities' tasks are proposed to be transferred to other authorities, including the Board for Home Crafts. This is shown in the report presented to the government on Tuesday, reports Altinget.
A non-ministerial government agency is called an authority led by a board. About 40 such authorities have been reviewed by the Agency for Administrative Development, which has assessed whether they need to be organisationally independent or can operate under other authorities or organisations.
The Agency for Administrative Development estimates that nearly half of the non-ministerial government agencies can continue to operate in their current form. In other cases, it is a matter of investigating an "alternative organisation".
As early as when the autumn budget was announced in September, the government announced that it wanted to review the number of authorities. The reason was to "increase efficiency in public administration".
The proposals do not involve any direct cost savings for the state, according to the Agency for Administrative Development. Those who sit on a board receive a fee, but not a salary.
