Autumn's Free Delights – from Poetry to Live Music

That the economy is tight after the summer vacation does not mean that you have to stay at home. Here are eleven free cultural events to take part in this autumn.

Granny Goes Street, Falun, 7 September

Free music festival in Falun. Eagle-Eye Cherry, Mapei, Medina, and dance band star Lucianoz perform, as well as local artists.

Chamber Concerts, Gothenburg, 7 September, 26 October, 7 November

Three free chamber concerts will be held in the Gothenburg Opera's foyer this autumn. The programme features Bizet, Puccini, and Verdi.

Galleri Galej, Borås, 7–8 September

Over a weekend, nine museums and galleries in Borås invite the public to everything from special exhibitions to music entertainment.

Culture Night, Uppsala, 14 September

The country's largest culture night, an annual event where the public gets to experience a range of cultural experiences, including music, theatre, dance, and performing arts.

Similar events take place in several cities in September and October, including Gothenburg, Lund, and Luleå.

Malmö Gallery Weekend, Malmö, 27–29 September

Over a weekend, galleries, institutions, and artist-driven spaces with 80 different exhibitors open up to the public in Malmö.

Open House Stockholm, Stockholm, 4–6 October

A three-day festival with free guided tours of buildings and sites in the Stockholm area that are not normally open to the public. The festival aims to increase interest in the city's architecture.

Humanist Day, Linköping, 5 October

A one-day cultural festival organized by the Faculty of Arts at Linköping University. Researchers, artists, and writers, including poet and playwright Athena Farrokhzad, will participate.

Litterart Feast, Nyköping, 10–12 October

Culture weekend with author talks, art, and music. Among the free events are author talks with Nathalie Klockars and a poetry evening featuring acclaimed poet Aya Kanbar.

Lund Choral Festival, Lund, 14–20 October

Choral festival during week 42. While some concerts require an entrance ticket, several choirs, including Svanholm Singers, Bella Voce, and Tornakören, offer free admission.

Gällivare Culture Festival, Gällivare, 14–22 October

Nine-day culture festival. Among the free events are exhibitions at the Gällivare Cultural Museum, Bollywood dance, film screenings, and poetry evenings.

Nordic Literature Week, several cities, 11–17 November

Reading events taking place throughout the Nordic region. This year's theme is Icelandic literature. Readings will be held in local schools and libraries for both children and adults in several Swedish cities, including Gothenburg, Stockholm, and Umeå.
