The far-right party National Rally is ready to take over power in France, says party leader Jordan Bardella six days before the election.

If the party wins, he says the country will not send troops to Ukraine.

National Rally is today the only movement that can reasonably implement the ambitions that the French people have clearly expressed, says Jordan Bardella at a press conference on Monday.

With three words: We are ready.

Opinion polls over the weekend give National Rally (RN) 35-36 per cent in the first round of voting, clearly ahead of the left-wing alliance New People's Front, which gets 27-29.5 per cent, and Macron's centre alliance, which gets 19.5-22 per cent.

If RN takes over power, the country will not send soldiers or long-distance drones to Ukraine, he says. A government led by him will "provide logistical support and defence equipment to Ukraine" but will not be willing to send long-distance drones or French troops.

Bardella is seen to have cleaned up the party's extremist image. Ahead of the election on Sunday, he has urged voters to give the party a direct majority.

Seven long years of Macronism have weakened the country, he says at the press conference, promising to increase purchasing power, restore order, and change the law to make it easier to deport foreigners convicted of crimes.
