The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, is escalating the rhetoric, claiming that Ukraine has stationed 120,000 soldiers at the border, reports the Belarusian state news agency Belta, citing an interview with Russian state TV.
In response, Belarus has stationed a third of its military forces along the entire border, according to Lukashenko. According to The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), the country had around 48,000 soldiers and 12,000 border guards in 2022.
Lukashenko also stated that the border is mined "like never before" and Ukraine's losses would be significant if they try to cross the border.
Kiev claims that they have not seen any signs of Belarusian troops at the border.
