The social network Linkedin, part of the Microsoft group, has been fined 310 million euros (equivalent to 3.5 billion kronor) for violating the EU's regulatory framework for the protection of personal data.
The violations are said to have occurred when Linkedin used private information to sell targeted advertisements to third parties without obtaining consent from the users.
The fine has been issued by an Irish authority responsible for supervising under the EU's data protection regulations.
