Birgitte Bonnesen "does not accept the verdict"

Two weeks ago, Swedbank's former CEO Birgitte Bonnesen was convicted of gross fraud. Now she is commenting on the verdict for the first time. "I do not accept being convicted of something I have not done," she says to Dagens Juridik.

The goal has been about whether Birgitte Bonnesen concealed what she and the bank management knew about the suspected money laundering in Swedbank, which "Uppdrag granskning" and SVT News revealed in the beginning of 2019.

After an acquittal in the district court, the court of appeal found that Birgitte Bonnesen had provided misleading information in two interviews in 2018.

The court of appeal's guilty verdict against me is just as incomprehensible today as it was on September 10. I do not accept being convicted of something I have not done and will do everything in my power to have the verdict overturned, she says to Dagens Juridik.

Bonnesen has previously stated that she will request a leave to appeal in the Supreme Court.

Bonnesen says she is shocked, but focuses on the positive, including being acquitted of gross market manipulation and unauthorized disclosure of insider information.

Is there anything you regret from this period?

It's easy to think with hindsight, many have done so and I don't want to contribute to that. However, it's clear that I reflect, but I want to keep my reflections to myself, she says to the newspaper.
