Canada's military has invested millions in new sleeping bags – which are too cold for the country's winters.
The fiasco was revealed when hundreds of soldiers were on exercise in the province of Alberta in November last year. At night, the temperature was around 20 degrees below zero, but despite having their new sleeping bags and lighting campfires, the soldiers were freezing in their tents.
The military now acknowledges that the sleeping bags are not "suitable for typical Canadian winters", reports CBC. According to an internal document, they are more suitable for late spring to early autumn.
The soldiers are now recommended to borrow the army's old sleeping bags instead – the ones the new ones replaced, according to the document.
The new sleeping bags cost the military nearly 35 million Canadian dollars, equivalent to over 260 million Swedish kronor.
