21 people with cancer diagnoses have been allowed to leave Gaza for medical treatment outside the strip, according to several media outlets.

Israeli authorities report, however, that 68 people – 19 sick or injured children and their relatives – have been allowed to leave the Gaza Strip and enter Egypt, in the first medical evacuation since May.

According to Cogat, the unit within Israel's Defense Ministry that handles civilian issues in Gaza, the evacuation was carried out in cooperation with officials from the USA, Egypt, and the international community.

In photos, families are seen saying tearful goodbyes before the children were taken out via the Kerem Shalom border crossing.

More than 25,000 people in the strip are in need of medical treatment abroad, according to the Health Ministry in Hamas-ruled Gaza. Many of them have cancer.

According to the department, nearly 5,000 patients have been evacuated since the war began over eight months ago.
