One of Sweden's greatest thanks for herself.

Caroline Seger confirms that she will be ending her career after this season.

The former national team captain's contract with Rosengård expires after this season. Already in April, Seger told TT that this season will likely be her last.

Now the 39-year-old midfielder confirms that there will be no extension.

Her elite football career spans 21 years, she was 18 years old when she made her debut in the Swedish league with Helsingborg's Stattena in 2003. Since 2005, she has been a national team player, and most often with the captain's armband around her arm.

No European football player has made more A-team appearances, 240 in total, and the medals are many: two Olympic silver medals, three World Cup bronze medals, and three European Championship bronze medals. Twice she has been awarded the Diamantbollen, the prize given to the best Swedish player of the year on the women's side.

But when she announced in the fall that she had done it with the national team, it was clear that her playing career would also be singing its swan song.

Now Seger hopes to end with another SM-gold with Rosengård, which tops the Swedish league table with eight wins after eight rounds.
