On Tiktok, the extremely spicy noodles have been a hit among children and young people, who challenge each other to eat them.
However, Denmark is now putting a stop to the trend. The reason is that the level of capsaicin is so high that it can cause acute poisoning, according to the Danish Food Authority, the Danish equivalent of the National Food Agency.
Capsaicin is the substance found in chilli that creates the heat in food.
"Consuming chilli in large quantities poses a risk, particularly to children and vulnerable adults. Possible symptoms include burning sensations and discomfort, nausea, vomiting, and elevated blood pressure. Therefore, we are now demanding that shops remove these products from their shelves," says Henrik Dammand Nielsen, unit manager at the Danish Food Authority, in a press release.
The products in question are from the Samyang brand, with three different flavours: "3x spicy & hot chicken", "2x spicy & hot chicken", and "Hot chicken stew".
