Two Chinese citizens were killed in an explosion outside Karachi Airport in Pakistan on Sunday, according to representatives of the two countries on Monday night Swedish time.
According to the police and provincial government, it was a tanker truck that exploded.
China's embassy says in a statement that a convoy with employees from a private Chinese company was attacked on Sunday and that two Chinese nationals were killed and another injured. Pakistani citizens are also reported to have been injured.
Thousands of Chinese workers are in Pakistan due to Beijing's international multi-billion investment in infrastructure BRI, also known as "the new Silk Road".
The plane attack follows a series of bloody attacks in the Balochistan province in August – where separatists are demanding self-rule – and which, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, were intended to harm Chinese development projects in Pakistan.
