Israel remembers the victims of October 7th

Exactly one year ago, Hamas carried out its bloody attack on Israel. Memorial ceremonies for the victims and to bring home the hostages have begun in many places. It has been a year and we still have nowhere to mourn, says a mother of a man who was taken to Gaza and killed.

The anniversary of the Islamist Hamas attack on Israel will be marked across Israel, as over 1,100 people who were killed and more than 200 people who were taken hostage are honored.

In Tel Aviv, images of the dead were displayed on large screens on Sunday evening, while hundreds gathered to light candles for the 370 who were killed during the attack on the Nova music festival.

I still can't take in that my beloved daughter was shot on her way home, in her car. She left her home to attend a festival for peace and music, says Orin Zach-Gantz, whose daughter Eden was one of the victims.

People ask how it feels a year later, but I'm stuck in the seventh of October (2023). The world moves on, but for me, time stands still, she says according to The Times of Israel.

Speech by Netanyahu

Already on Saturday, President Isaac Herzog said in a memorial speech that Israel's wounds still cannot heal completely.

Since hostages are still being tortured, executed, and dying in captivity.

On Monday, he will lead a national ceremony in Jerusalem, but also, at dawn, a memorial ceremony in the border town of Sderot, where over 50 people were killed, reports AFP.

A memorial service will also be held at the kibbutz Beeri, where 120 people lost their lives. A demonstration demanding an agreement to bring home the hostages will be held there.

In addition, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to deliver a speech to the nation in the early evening.

High Security

The ceremonies will take place under a constant threat of attacks from Hamas and Hezbollah, and the authorities allow a maximum of 2,000 people to gather. And around all events, the security presence will be enormous.

We are prepared and have heightened alertness. They (Hamas) will try to carry out attacks on our home front, says the military's spokesperson Daniel Hagari according to AP.

But the victims' relatives are confident of victory.

The terrorists succeeded in their attack, they killed my daughter Eden. But I swear on your life, Eden, they will not win the war, says mother Orin Zach-Gantz in Tel Aviv on Sunday evening.
