An Indian YouTube user uploaded a video to the site – where he cooked a curry dish with peacock meat. Peacocks are protected in the country and the man was arrested after the police noticed the video.
The investigators are now examining how the man got hold of the peacock, which was clearly visible in the video before it was deleted from YouTube. According to the police, the man probably wanted to attract more viewers to his channel, but the stunt sparked outrage among the users who saw the clip.
The reactions were probably not what he had expected, says a police spokesperson.
The peacock has a special significance in India and also appears in the imagery surrounding the royal Mughal dynasty. Killing a peacock does not only result in fines, but also includes imprisonment between 3–7 years in the penalty scale.
