The County Administrative Board's offices in central Malmö were evacuated after a letter with suspected contents. By lunchtime, the police announced that the contents were harmless and that there was no suspicion of a crime.

The contents were nothing that was meant to deceive in any way, says the police's press spokesperson Sara Andersson.

The incident occurred at 9 am on Monday morning.

Our security manager contacted the police directly. We had a similar incident a year ago. Therefore, we have a certain routine for handling these incidents, says the county director Ola Melin and continues:

I don't know what made them suspect this particular package. Nor how it was addressed. Until we know, we must handle it as a real incident, but it was very nice that it wasn't anything dangerous.

The staff at the County Administrative Board in Skåne were able to return to the office at 12.00.

We have spoken to our employees who are calm and collected. We will have follow-up talks to make sure everyone is okay, says Ola Melin.

The National Bomb Squad, police, and rescue services were on site during the day to investigate the incident.

Two people were sanitized as a precaution.

It's a standard routine and something we do when handling objects suspected to be dangerous, says Mats Streer, duty officer at the South Rescue Service.

Last year, 20 county administrative boards received envelopes with white powder that, after analysis, proved to be harmless. The County Administrative Board in Blekinge was one of them and has, after today's incident, increased its vigilance over incoming mail for the next few days, reports P4 Blekinge.
