Jan-Erik Wikström has passed away

Jan-Erik Wikström, who was among other things Sweden's Minister of Education 1976-1982, has passed away, his family announces to TT.

Wikström engaged himself early in the Liberal Youth Association and was elected to the party board in 1964. Six years later, he became a member of parliament and later Minister of Education with responsibility also for culture in Torbjörn Fälldin's and Ola Ullsten's governments.

After the change of government in 1982, Wikström joined the party leadership and was briefly chairman of the parliamentary group.

Wikström later became chairman of the board of Sweden's National Radio in 1985 and Governor of Uppsala County 1992-97.

Jan-Erik Wikström was 91 years old.
