Cozy Autumn Activities

It is that time of year again when the leaves slowly turn to shades of red and yellow, the air becomes crisper, and mys - the Swedish concept of coziness - becomes essential to getting through the darker months. But do not worry, it is not winter yet! Here are five great activities to help you enjoy autumn in Sweden.

1. Foraging for Mushrooms and Berries

Autumn is mushroom picking season in Sweden! Head to a nearby forest to search for chanterelles and porcini mushrooms. If you are new to foraging remember to bring a guidebook or go with someone experienced to make sure you pick mushrooms that are safe to eat. Once you have a basket full of mushrooms, make one of these mushroom recipes and enjoy a restaurant-style dinner at home.

Autumn is also the perfect time for picking blueberries, hawthorn, and lingonberries. Bring a friend and fill your buckets and baskets with these delicious superfoods!

2. Apple Picking

A visit to Kivik in Österlen, Skåne, is a must for apple picking and tasting. Pack up the car and take a road trip for the famous Apple Weekend at the end of September, where you can enjoy sampling a wide variety of apples, ciders, and apple treats.

3. Spa Day

As the days grow shorter, it is easy to feel tired and not so enthusiastic about the dark months ahead. Shake off the autumn blues with a rejuvenating weekend at a spa. Indulge in a Swedish massage, relax in a sauna, and look out for special autumn deals.

4. Try Cold Swimming

Before winter arrives and the true cold-swimming season begins, why not take a dip while the water is still not frozen? If you have been curious about this trend that has taken Sweden by storm, try a gentler version of cold swimming on a calm autumn day. It is invigorating and a great way to experience Swedish nature!

5. Enjoy Fika with Seasonal Treats

October 4th marks Kanelbullens dag (Cinnamon Bun Day) in Sweden, the perfect excuse to indulge in a delicious fika with freshly baked cinnamon buns.
