"After admitting guilt to aiding and abetting murder, the man entered into an agreement, a so-called 'plea bargain', with the Spanish prosecutor, which resulted in him being sentenced to a relatively shorter prison sentence in Spain," says Prosecutor-General Lisa Åberg in a press release.
The man is a Danish citizen, but has lived most of his life in Sweden. He was first arrested in Dubai in 2020 and was deported to Denmark. From there, he was extradited to Spain, as he was wanted there.
From Spain, he was subsequently extradited to Sweden, where he was suspected of the crimes he is now being prosecuted for.
The evidence against him is largely based on information from a decrypted communication service, Encrochat. According to the indictment, he was involved in the handling of a total of 54 kilograms of cocaine, a criminal activity that was controlled from Dubai and carried out in collaboration with criminal actors in, among other places, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, and Sweden.
According to the prosecutor, he admits to the drug-related crimes, but denies one count of aggravated weapons offense for which he is being prosecuted. The trial begins on September 27.
